Broadway Jazz

Explore the theatrical dance style and choreography of classic Broadway shows, mega-musicals and movies! This upbeat class is perfect for aspiring actors looking to polish their dance skills, and dancers seeking to expand their ability to interpret characters and inhabit roles. Working within the tradition of classical jazz technique, students of Broadway Jazz will have the opportunity learn the signature styles and choreographic works of legends such as Ziegfeld, Jerome Robbins, Bob Fosse and Michael Bennett. From West Side Story, to Oklahoma, The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Chicago, A Chorus Line, Mamma Mia!, Annie, Grease and more, dancers will have the chance to stretch their imaginations as well as their technical skills. Please note: This class requires the use of heeled character shoes, and thus is recommended for dancers with some previous training.

Broadway Jazz 1/2: (Ages 8-12) Dancers will concentrate on mastering the elements of foundational jazz technique, including travelling steps, small jumps and turns, as well as the interpretation of age-appropriate choreography and character roles.

Broadway Jazz 3/4: (Ages 13+) Dancers will concentrate on developing intermediate and advanced jazz technique, including extension, multiple turns and leaps. Dancers will learn excerpts of iconic Broadway choreography, including the characterization of more sophisticated roles.
